The week of exams

 ‘Twas the week of exams, when all through the school

All of the students were studying, to not make a fool;

The books were placed on the table with care,

In hopes that an A+ would soon be theirs;

The teachers were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of summer danced in their heads;

They crammed and they crammed, to stay prepared,

For only the scantron would tell them how they fared…

Check back next week for the conclusion

Living the Graduate Life

Hey all! I am over half way into my first class in the MBA program and am doing great. The midterm went very well and was very fair. The whole class seemed to agree as well. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into Operations Management but I must say that I have learned a lot more than I expected. It’s a nice class because it incorporates both quantitative and qualitative skills and there is a lot to learn from my other classmates. Needless to say, I really enjoy it and am doing great.

I’ve been working at Canisius now for 2 months and am really enjoying it. The people in my office and the rest of the college are so easy to get along with and friendly. I have also gotten to experience the evening and night life of Buffalo over the last few weeks, and what a night life it is. It seems like there are a thousand different restaurants to go to ranging from seafood to burger joints. I ate at Cozumel, a Mexican restaurant, and enjoyed some great drinks and nachos. I also ate at Wasabi, and sushi bar, and loved it! Every night I could eat somewhere different and still get the same quality and price as the night before. Besides the delicious food, I checked out some of the bars and clubs. Not to sound repetitive, but just like the restaurants there are over a hundred bars to choose from. You can go to Buckin’ Buffalo for a taste of country or club Bayou for some more recent popular music. So, with Canisius being a solid and challenging school I have food, music, and my social life to fall back on.

I can see myself being in Buffalo for quite a while. If you have any questions just respond to the blog and I’d be happy to help anyone out as best as I can. So until next time, adios.

Clark Banach, President and CEO of Sparkable

Clark Banach is an economist who wants to run his company differently.  In lieu of earning a traditional CEO’s salary, he’d rather surround himself with people who he said want to deliver value and positively impact the business. Banach launched a not-for-profit agency in January with rugby teammate and fellow Canisius College graduate Dean Bourque. The pair has a little more than two dozen part-time and volunteer workers for them to support Creative Hope, which was designed to help the underserved explore and develop their art and music skills. Banach illustrated how his company is set up and supported by distinct, separate for-profit agencies he and Bourque also created by drawing a solar system-type model. Banach starts with Creative Hope, which is the sun in his universe. It was designed to provide art equipment and other resources to those who have just graduated college. Banach said the goal of Creative Hope is to eventually offer scholarships in music and fine art, and courses in financial literacy. He has been meeting with leadership in the Masten District to acquire an old school building at

735 Humboldt Parkway

, with the idea of using it as a headquarters for Creative Hope, an art gallery and learning center.  Next, Banach draws four planets that orbit Creative Hope: Northstar Media Studios, an Erie, Penn.-based recording studio; Art Genesis, an art production and merchandising company; Angelic Ink, a publishing company scheduled to release its first book in November; and Sparkable Inc., a Web content management company.
