The week of exams

 ‘Twas the week of exams, when all through the school

All of the students were studying, to not make a fool;

The books were placed on the table with care,

In hopes that an A+ would soon be theirs;

The teachers were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of summer danced in their heads;

They crammed and they crammed, to stay prepared,

For only the scantron would tell them how they fared…

doing business in the EU

I recently just learned of a great opportunity that the MBA program offers. It’s called Doing Business in the EU. It’s over a week long trip to France, a visit to Brussels, and a trip to Paris.

In Europe, students will attend lectures on the European Union given by French business professors, tour companies, visit offices of the European Union government, and meet with European managers. The week long trip is worth 3 credits and counts toward your masters. Unfortunately, my schedule does not permit me to go but I would highly suggest it to anyone who wants to go oversees. This is the perfect opportunity to go, and you get 3 credits while your there!

Living the Graduate Life

Hey all! I am over half way into my first class in the MBA program and am doing great. The midterm went very well and was very fair. The whole class seemed to agree as well. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into Operations Management but I must say that I have learned a lot more than I expected. It’s a nice class because it incorporates both quantitative and qualitative skills and there is a lot to learn from my other classmates. Needless to say, I really enjoy it and am doing great.

I’ve been working at Canisius now for 2 months and am really enjoying it. The people in my office and the rest of the college are so easy to get along with and friendly. I have also gotten to experience the evening and night life of Buffalo over the last few weeks, and what a night life it is. It seems like there are a thousand different restaurants to go to ranging from seafood to burger joints. I ate at Cozumel, a Mexican restaurant, and enjoyed some great drinks and nachos. I also ate at Wasabi, and sushi bar, and loved it! Every night I could eat somewhere different and still get the same quality and price as the night before. Besides the delicious food, I checked out some of the bars and clubs. Not to sound repetitive, but just like the restaurants there are over a hundred bars to choose from. You can go to Buckin’ Buffalo for a taste of country or club Bayou for some more recent popular music. So, with Canisius being a solid and challenging school I have food, music, and my social life to fall back on.

I can see myself being in Buffalo for quite a while. If you have any questions just respond to the blog and I’d be happy to help anyone out as best as I can. So until next time, adios.

The First Class

First MBA class

My first ever MBA class was a great experience. The class was in Old Main 108 and I had no trouble finding it. The classroom was well equipped and a nice size. I was pretty anxious to get things started; I didn’t know anyone and was a bit skeptical of the long class period but at the same time I couldn’t wait to start the next stage in my life. However, to my delight, the professor was a real easy going guy and the rest of the class was filled with students and professionals of all ages. I think it’s safe to say that everyone felt comfortable in the class room.

As the class progressed it was obvious that our professor had a lot of knowledge and experience (25 years) in his field to go along with all of the different types of experience from the rest of my classmates. Not only was I learning from the material but everyone else’s point of view. There was a nice flow to the class and time flew by. With a 15 minute break in the middle, I thought the time frame 6:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. was perfect. It enabled us to cover all of the material and have plenty of discussion as well.

I never thought I’d be the one saying this but I am looking forward to Wednesday’s class!

City of Buffalo

I am now in the hunt for an apartment or house somewhere within walking distance of Canisius or around the Elmwood area. The surrounding area of Canisius is very nice especially around Elmwood. There are parks, restaurants, and bars all within a couple of miles. I could either go for a coffee and relax or go bar hopping in many popular locations. This city has something for everyone.

While looking for a house, I just hopped on Craig’s List and typed in Canisius College. Hundreds of different links appeared and I was already collecting potential property information within a few minutes right where I wanted to live. The city of Buffalo has a lot to offer and is a great college hot spot that hosts many other Division I, II, and III colleges, which makes it great for job opportunities, entertainment, and a social life. Niagara Falls is only 15 minutes north, and the Buffalo Bills and Sabres are close by.

All in all the city of Buffalo is for people of all ages and personalities and Canisius is right in the heart of it. My only hope is that I get to experience as much as I can while I’m here!
