Save 100 Dollars

Gas

Getting the best price on a gallon of gas isn’t the only way to save big at the pump. Don’t ignore the check engine light. According to the Automobile Association of America (AAA), an out-of-sync car can consume 3%-8% more gas than a well-maintained vehicle, which adds up to hundreds of dollars in extra fuel over the years. Make sure your ride has inflated tires, clean oil, good spark plugs, and a clean air filter. And don’t lug around unnecessary baggage in your car; the extra weight actually eats up gas.

You should also use the Internet to find the cheapest gas in your neighborhood. Web sites such as GasBuddy.com and GasPriceWatch.com keep track of gas prices in a number of cities.

5 Tips for a successful MBA semester

  • Get to Know your Professor!  Contact your professors and introduce yourself! Ask questions about the syllabus.  Also, if you are going to miss a class let them know. The professor will be more likely to schedule quizzes and exams on an alternate date, or they will be more accommodating when discussing an alternative time.
  • Give yourself a schedule!  It is so easy to get behind on reading and assignments, especially if you’re working!  Set aside a planned time just for school work.  Even if an assignment is not due, work on the material weekly so it does not overwhelm you.
  • Get the support of your boss! Talk to your boss about your new professional venture.    Explain the reasons you’re getting your MBA and how it will benefit the company.  Your boss will keep your additional responsibilities in mind when distributing extra projects.
  • Get a buddy!! Although it is difficult to make friends in a part-time evening program, teamwork is essential to success! Make sure you exchange emails and phone numbers with a student in case you have a quick question or are missing some notes.
  • Clean House!! It sounds silly but….tune-up the car, organize the closet, tighten up loose ends. Whatever you think needs to be done. The semester will move pretty fast.  The first couple of weeks you can still accomplish some of the mundane chores.  After that you will start to feel overwhelmed.  So make a to-do list and push through it.  By the end of the second week, hide the to-do list for the next semester break.
