Canisius MBA

Interesting Start-up Opportunity

Healthwon
Last week I met with Steve Joyce, COO of Healthwon, a new company recently formed. The CEO of that company is Thomas Hartnett, Ph.D, former CEO of BlueCross BlueShield. They have completed the feasibility,
planning and development stages and are now looking for an intern(s) to assist them. “Healthwon is a Health Savings Account management company which coordinates the customer interface for the trustee bank(s), provider pricing, and quality of care outcomes.” The intern will work with executive management and the web development company in researching and qualifying information HealthWon participants will access on the web to make more informed health care decisions. They have an office in Amherst but students can also do work remotely.

Students, undergrads and MBAs, who have an interest in understanding insurance and health care costs/implications for companies and employees, and doing web research on medical or health care content
would be good candidates. As part of the training, students would meet with the executive team or the COO to understand the mission and structure of the company and then be given projects to complete. The
internship I believe will pay well given candidate qualifications. This would be a good opportunity for students to meet with high level executives and to understand the current trends and issues surrounding
the business of US health care.
