If someone was looking for a Supply Chain/ Logistics or International Business internship where would the best place be to look?
What comapnies in the local Buffalo/Niagara Falls area offer these types of internships or opportunities?

I decided to concentrate in Global Supply Chain Management for my MBA. To my surprise, the average person doesn’t even know what supply chain management is. However, supply chain management is an up and coming field that is crucial to every business’ success from manufacturing to retail. My only concern was that SCM did not have a large job market, especially in Buffalo. Boy was I wrong. I recently became aware of an organization called World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara. They are an international business development organization that strengthens the international position of companies in Upstate New York and Niagara, Ontario based right here! It just goes to show how Buffalo, being right near an international border and waterways, is a great location for optimizing your supply chain. Companies are always looking for ways to reduce costs and increase productivity, and a more efficient supply chain is the answer.
The World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara organization is hosting a networking reception with complimentary food and drink following a seminar at the Buffalo Club on Delaware Ave. The focus of the seminar is “making sure your supply chain is lean and effective will expedite delivery time to your customers, strengthen the relationship with your suppliers, reduce risk and help your business grow. Supply chain experts will teach you how to make your supply chain effective.” There will be speakers from HSBC, Rich Products, Curbell Electronics, and the University of Buffalo. This seminar is on Wednesday, September 30th from 3:30pm to 6:30 pm.
I hope to see you there!

I was speaking with my cousin in-law about grad school a few weeks ago. When I told him I was living in Buffalo and getting my MBA from Canisius his face lit up. He had a huge smile on his face and told me that he got his MBA from Canisius a few years back. We must’ve spent the next hour talking about what professor’s and classes he had. Turns out we’re taking a bunch of the same classes, have some matching professors and he even lived a few blocks from where I live now. He was so happy that I am a Golden Griffin and am getting my MBA from Canisius. He was in the program for 2 years and had nothing but good things to say. He loved the city, the school, and the people. He assured me that I would really enjoy the program and see the benefits immediately. He also said that the Alumni network is very strong and that if I ever needed anything he and/or other alumni would be there to help.
It’s very reassuring to hear from a fellow graduate, who loved the MBA program and had nothing but good things to say. I feel that I am part of an elite group and am proud to wear my Canisius gear!
Well, the first day of class for the 2009 Fall semester has arrived! The streets are now filled with undergrad and graduate students as everyone walks to and from class. I’m sure everyone, including myself, is anxious to start the new school year. I finished up my summer class a few weeks ago and was very pleased with how things went. A lot was learned from both the professor and fellow classmates. The professor has a lot of life and work experience and was willing to share with the class. He tested and graded fairly and I did good in his class. With the first class jitters out of the way I am looking forward to meeting the new professor and classmates, and see what is in store for the next four months.
I am taking four classes this semester, three at night and one during the day, as I work three days a week. The flexibility of the program is especially nice. I was able to pick my own schedule and take some day classes to make time for work and leave some evenings open. The original changes made to my schedule were met with urgency and care from the Graduate Business office. One phone call later and everything I needed was taken care of; things are exactly how I want them and I couldn’t ask for more. Canisius really accommodates all of my needs and treats me like family.
Stay tuned as I keep you updated on how the Fall semester unravels!
Hey all! I am over half way into my first class in the MBA program and am doing great. The midterm went very well and was very fair. The whole class seemed to agree as well. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into Operations Management but I must say that I have learned a lot more than I expected. It’s a nice class because it incorporates both quantitative and qualitative skills and there is a lot to learn from my other classmates. Needless to say, I really enjoy it and am doing great.
I’ve been working at Canisius now for 2 months and am really enjoying it. The people in my office and the rest of the college are so easy to get along with and friendly. I have also gotten to experience the evening and night life of Buffalo over the last few weeks, and what a night life it is. It seems like there are a thousand different restaurants to go to ranging from seafood to burger joints. I ate at Cozumel, a Mexican restaurant, and enjoyed some great drinks and nachos. I also ate at Wasabi, and sushi bar, and loved it! Every night I could eat somewhere different and still get the same quality and price as the night before. Besides the delicious food, I checked out some of the bars and clubs. Not to sound repetitive, but just like the restaurants there are over a hundred bars to choose from. You can go to Buckin’ Buffalo for a taste of country or club Bayou for some more recent popular music. So, with Canisius being a solid and challenging school I have food, music, and my social life to fall back on.
I can see myself being in Buffalo for quite a while. If you have any questions just respond to the blog and I’d be happy to help anyone out as best as I can. So until next time, adios.

First MBA class
My first ever MBA class was a great experience. The class was in Old Main 108 and I had no trouble finding it. The classroom was well equipped and a nice size. I was pretty anxious to get things started; I didn’t know anyone and was a bit skeptical of the long class period but at the same time I couldn’t wait to start the next stage in my life. However, to my delight, the professor was a real easy going guy and the rest of the class was filled with students and professionals of all ages. I think it’s safe to say that everyone felt comfortable in the class room.
As the class progressed it was obvious that our professor had a lot of knowledge and experience (25 years) in his field to go along with all of the different types of experience from the rest of my classmates. Not only was I learning from the material but everyone else’s point of view. There was a nice flow to the class and time flew by. With a 15 minute break in the middle, I thought the time frame 6:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. was perfect. It enabled us to cover all of the material and have plenty of discussion as well.
I never thought I’d be the one saying this but I am looking forward to Wednesday’s class!

I am now in the hunt for an apartment or house somewhere within walking distance of Canisius or around the Elmwood area. The surrounding area of Canisius is very nice especially around Elmwood. There are parks, restaurants, and bars all within a couple of miles. I could either go for a coffee and relax or go bar hopping in many popular locations. This city has something for everyone.
While looking for a house, I just hopped on Craig’s List and typed in Canisius College. Hundreds of different links appeared and I was already collecting potential property information within a few minutes right where I wanted to live. The city of Buffalo has a lot to offer and is a great college hot spot that hosts many other Division I, II, and III colleges, which makes it great for job opportunities, entertainment, and a social life. Niagara Falls is only 15 minutes north, and the Buffalo Bills and Sabres are close by.
All in all the city of Buffalo is for people of all ages and personalities and Canisius is right in the heart of it. My only hope is that I get to experience as much as I can while I’m here!
